Beleco and Simon's Collaboration
Beleco, a renowned sustainable furniture company, was a natural choice for Simon's collaboration during Porsche SCOPES. Their shared vision for promoting sustainable practices made them an ideal team. Together, they embarked on a project that embodied sustainability, upcycling, and conscious design, using design furniture that complimented his installation to create the future of design.
In an interview, Simon shared his thoughts on the collaboration. "Rented furniture is such a no-brainer good idea, so I was thrilled to collaborate with Beleco. Their large and varied inventory, along with their expertise in curation, made them the perfect partner for this project," he explained.Simon's Work at the Festival
Simon's installation for the festival, titled "Värmeverket but 10,000 Years in the Future," was a unique blend of creativity and sustainability. Using concrete blocks salvaged from the walls of Värmeverket, Simon and his colleague, Daniel Araya, transformed their everyday office space into an otherworldly environment. To add an extraterrestrial touch, Simon utilized a large robot arm for 3D-printing. The arm created alien-looking, gigantic seeds and palm tree trunks, which were then filled with equally extraordinary plants. The remarkable aspect of this 3D-printing process was its complete lack of waste production. Additionally, all 3D-printed objects were biodegradable and part of a circular production cycle.

Simon's Forward-Thinking Approach
When asked about his focus on 3D-printing, Simon revealed how he stumbled upon the technique during his thesis project. Intrigued by its possibilities, he realized that large-scale 3D-printing had immense potential for his designs. Although currently relatively expensive, Simon foresaw a future where these production methods would become more common and affordable across various industries.
The Future of Sustainable Design
Simon Mattisson firmly believes that sustainable design should be accessible to all. He emphasized the importance of reevaluating our perception of the objects we surround ourselves with and highlighted ideas such as furniture renting and repair as promising solutions for the industry's future.

Overcoming Challenges and Embracing Sustainability
Implementing sustainable practices in the furniture industry has its fair share of challenges. Simon shared his experience, noting that while many actors aspire to be sustainable, few are willing to make the necessary adjustments. However, he remains optimistic about the future, where sustainable materials and production methods continue to evolve.
The Intersection of Tech, Art, and Sustainability
Simon's creative process thrives on the crossover between the digital and physical realms. He finds that using digital tools, while conscious of their limitations and quirks, allows him to explore new forms and push the boundaries of his designs. While skeptical about AI's impact on art and design, Simon remains fascinated by the potential of technology in shaping sustainable furniture creation.
Simon Mattisson's collaboration with Beleco at the Porsche SCOPES event demonstrated the power of conscious design and sustainability in the furniture industry. Our joined effort highlighted the innovative use of materials and production methods, and product life cycle, creating a vibrant and sustainable festival installation. Simon's commitment to pushing boundaries and Beleco's dedication to eco-friendly practices paved the way for a future where sustainable products become accessible and widely embraced.
